History
North-West Institute of Printing Arts is in fact a unique specialized university, which trains experts for publishing houses, print shops, book-selling organizations and other enterprises in Russia.
The starting point for the Institute was the post-war 1946 when the Training Bureau of Moscow Institute of Printing was founded in Leningrad. At first it was situated in Technical school of Editing and Printing in Vasilievsky Island and classes took places in many Leningrad Institutes. In 1968 the Bureau became a branch of Moscow Institute of Printing Arts and moved to its current building in per. Djambula. Maybe it is not a mere chance that in the end of XIX century this building housed Leshtukov steam fast-press shop run by the editor Jablonsky. In early 1990-ies the branch was reformed into the Institute. Since 2001 it has been a part of St. Petersburg State University of Technology and Design.
